Students on campus

Welcome to the page for Exeter Reps. You can find information about each rep role, the meetings that you will attend, and other information which will help you to be as effective as possible in your role as a rep.

Rep Roles

Subject Chair

As a Subject Chair, you are the senior academic representative in your subject, representing all students studying at undergraduate or postgraduate taught level. You will be working closely with your team of course Reps, Exeter University academic staff and the Students’ Union to achieve positive change for students within your subject.

Course Reps

Your main job is to collect feedback from your cohort to represent their views at Student Staff Liaison Committees (SSLCs) and in discussion with the SU and University Staff. You listen to the student voice and take actions based on the feedback.

EDI Reps

EDI stands for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, and EDI Reps work with other Reps in their SSLC, teaching and support staff within their Department, as well as wider University of Exeter staff to ensure that all students are supported and listened to, and ensure that the university does as much as it can for students from underrepresented groups.

Employability Reps

Some SSLCs have Employability Reps. These reps gather feedback specifically around the employability of the department, and the provision from the Career Zone. The Career Zone has a representative attend SSLCs, so these reps will work closely with them.

Study Abroad and Placement Reps

These two rep roles do a similar job. Reps in these positions gather feedback across the whole process for studying abroad or going on a placement year, and feed this back to the SSLC

Rep Meetings

SSLCs

The main meetings that all reps will attend is the SSLC. SSLC stands for Student Staff Liaison Committee and is where staff and students come together to discuss feedback and developments in the department. Chaired by the Subject Chair, and supported by the Director for Education and Student Experience, is the place to raise feedback that you have gathered from your course mates, and to share what is going well, and where there could be improvements. These meet one to two times a term, and the agenda will be shared with you ahead of the meeting

Subject Chair Working Group

The Subject Chair Working Group is a meeting organised by the Students’ Union, and is a chance for all of the Subject Chairs from across the departments to talk about what has been happening in their SSLCs, to share best practice, and to let the SU know what we could be doing better to support you. These will take place once a term

Success For All Committee

This is a meeting with senior staff from the university for EDI Reps to discuss developments, and to share how the university could be more supportive of students from underrepresented groups. This meeting takes place once a term, and usually via Teams. You can always catch up with staff outside of these set meetings. Sometimes it is better to try and solve some problems in this way, as it will meet students will get their issues sorted, without having to wait for the next SSLC!
