Pride Month

June is Pride month - a time to highlight and learn more about the lived experiences of our LGBTQ+ community.
June is Pride month - a time to highlight and learn more about the lived experiences of our LGBTQ+ community.

In the UK, Pride Month takes place in June each year. As part of the month you will see marches, events, talks, and festivals that highlight LGBTQ+ causes.

Why is Pride so important?

Pride marches are an exciting way for LGBTQ+ individuals to celebrate their identity and feel part of a wider community. Seeing yourself in a community can be healing and affirming, helping people to feel less alone and understand themselves better.

By highlighting LGBTQ+ causes, Pride is a huge opportunity for the queer community to share their ideas and issues with each other and allies who can help with making their ideas happen or improve the experiences of LGBTQ+ people.

Community and resources

The SU's Pride Society

A society that provides an open and secure environment for members of the LGBTQ+ community. We aim to provide an environment where people across the spectrum of gender and sexuality can feel safe, comfortable and happy with who they are during their time at university, while getting involved in the different activities offered by the society. Regular events include socials, film screenings, and artistic events aiming to encourage collaboration and visibility.

LGBTQ+ History Month

A month of acknowledging the historical successes of the LGBTQ+ community in the UK and across the world. We share profiles of students and SU staff on our campuses.

You can find help and support through a number of organisations based locally in Cornwall and on a national level.
