Tuesday 2nd May saw the 8th annual University of Exeter Teaching Awards, held in partnership between FXU and The Students’ Guild. With nearly 1000 nominations being made across 12 categories, the student-led shortlisting panels had a tough job to narrow it down to a final shortlist of three nominations per award. Four Penryn based staff made the final shortlist: Jo Esra (English) for Best Feedback Provider, Dr Shane Fudge (Geography) for Best Postgraduate Taught Supervisor, with Rebecca Takeda-Frost (CEMPS), Best Employability, and Ricardo Celestino (CSM) for Best Postgraduate Teaching Assistant, winning in their categories.

Speaking about her award, Rebecca said, “"Thank you very much to the student thinking of me and writing wonderful nominations – it means so much to be formally recognised in this way - especially for a role I thoroughly enjoy. I have tremendous support from the team, students, academics and Professional Services staff that allow me to develop employability activities within the college. It was a lovely event – thank you to the FXU and Guild for hosting a fantastic event of celebration”

In addition to individual staff categories, there was also the prestigious ‘Best Subject, Cornwall’ award. The shortlisted subjects were: Biosciences, CGES and Flexible Combined Honours, with the winning Biosciences nomination including, “From the moment you step onto the course you get a sense that you are part of a leading scientific community who will support you in any way they can.'

Co-host Tom Murray-Richards "I'm so happy to have been here to celebrate the Guild and FXU Teaching Awards 2017. It is so important to value our excellent teaching and professional services staff, and I am proud to be part of an event that exemplifies the excellent partnership between the Guild, FXU and the University of Exeter. We always look forward to events like this, and it is an absolute pleasure to highlight our collective achievements. Thank you to every student who took the time to nominate a staff member, and to everyone who attended the ceremony. It was a great night!"
