Ben Statham-Wilkins, President Falmouth, launched the ‘Show Offs’ project in November with the mural design competition.
The brief for the mural was to design artwork that reflected the values of The SU and what it means to students. The opportunity was supported with a £500 payment for the winner and the chance to paint the mural on the wall outside of the SU office at Penryn Campus.
There were 17 entries to the competition, each one was accompanied with a personal story about the student experience. It was a real reflection on the student experience in Cornwall and highlighted the incredible talent and creativity across our institutions, campuses and courses.
All entries went to a panel vote that included Ben Statham-Wilkins, President Falmouth, Sarah Davey, SU CEO, Sarah Roby, Director of Estates at Falmouth Exeter Plus and the communications team at The SU.
The winner of the competition is Abby Mundell, third year Illustration student.
Her design stood out for its energy, diversity of people and variety of activities. The panel described the design as inclusive, energetic and forward-thinking. We hope you agree!
Abby will be drawing and painting her design on to the wall outside the SU office at the Penryn Campus in the coming weeks.
Ben Statham-Wilkins said, “I’m really proud of the students who entered this competition. It was overwhelming to see the response. We know that there is student demand for opportunities to display your work and we want to offer more opportunities like this. We will be announcing a new project very soon!”
