PresidentsPresidents blogStudent Representative
Fina Day, Vice President

Equality, diversity, and inclusion with a focus on international, disabled, and LGBTQIA+ students.

  • Falmouth transgender collective
    • I met and collaborated with the Fal trans collective to further imbed student voice into the formation and running of our SU collectives.
  • Gender neutral toilets
    • After the make a change passing at forum last month, I have taken on the Gender neutral bathroom provision issue and have set up a meeting with the director of FXPLUS to discuss the scope for increasing the current number of gender neutral toilets on our campuses. More updates to come after this meeting!
  • Ensured that the Exeter mental health and wellbeing group includes Cornwall campuses when planning cultural celebrations over the next year
    • I take part in the Exeter mental health and wellbeing group which is currently planning a big cultural celebration on Streatham campus. I have repeatedly reminded them to include a provision for some sort of celebration on our Cornwall campus as well, and they have now set aside some funding for a Cornwall specific cultural celebration.

Wellbeing

  • University mental health charter (UMHC) survey and funding for focus groups
    • After speaking to James Hutchinson from Exeter university I was able to secure a small pot of money so that I can run focus groups to dive further into the UMHC student submission later this month. A survey will be going out ahead of this to get some baseline wellbeing feedback from a larger group of students before the smaller focus group.
  • Library wellbeing section
    • I have been working collaboratively with the library to improve their wellbeing section. Steering it away from more clinical books and towards a more holistic approach to individual wellbeing. They are still taking suggestions for their new wellbeing section so feel free to drop in and chat to them if you have thoughts!

Sexual health

  • Brook pop-up Falmouth campus
    • In conjunction with our advocacy team I helped host Brook sexual health for a pop-up on Falmouth campus earlier this month. They offered students free STI tests and condoms, as well as answering any questions student may have re- sexual health. I also used this opportunity to ask students for input on the SHAG week coming in February and what they would like to see from it.
  • SHAG survey
    • I have created and sent out a survey to gain more feedback from student on what events and speakers they would like to attend during SHAG week. This will allow us to finalize plans and start booking things in!
  • Sexhibition
    • I have confirmed that this years big showcase will be sexhibition themed. Submissions can be in any art form and will be around all things love, sex, body positivity, and relationships! The works submitted will be displayed at fish factory with an opening night at the beginning of SHAG week. Keep yours eyes out for more info on this to come!

Other

  • SOUP
    • In collaboration with Connie and SU crew I have been souping it up most Fridays. With much guidance from the lovely Connie and veg from Penryn produce the SU crew and I have been making soup every Friday to feed up to 70 students each week!
