Meet Ryan, Centre for Geography and Environmental Science Subject Chair

Hiya, it is great to meet you all. I'm Ryan (He/Him) - a fourth-year Geography with Study Abroad student - and one of this year's Subject Chairs for CGES. This role involves sending, processing and sorting feedback from other students in the department for various reasons. I'd like to hear feedback about modules, how you generally feel about the year so far, and how you can improve your experience. It is all about ensuring that your voice is heard and that the experience of other students can be enhanced going forward. Without your input - and more importantly, if you're having somewhat of a negative experience - no changes may be made. Your student experience can only be improved if you say something. The same is true if you feel someone else's can be improved, too. These reasons are also why becoming a Subject Representative is important. We still have positions open! It's not time-consuming, and it fills a space on your CV. I've been asked about the role in job interviews (long story, though).

I recently returned from an exchange year in the Netherlands. If you are interested in the study abroad programme - particularly for universities in the EU - please feel free to ask me any questions about the process. I am still part of the Erasmus Student Network and can point you in the direction of some people abroad who can tell you about their international student experience. I do recommend the course if you feel like you want to take the leap of faith. But - also - studying at a different institution means you can use experiences to give feedback on how modules and courses are taught and assessed in the department.

But for now, please apply to be a rep and complete the surveys so we can improve our collective experience.

You can reach me at rja226@exeter.ac.uk

If you're interested in signing up as rep, sign ups are open now until 11 October 2024.
