Hi guys!
I’m Saskia Adie, a 3rd year medical student and one of your subject chairs. After being a course representative last year, I wanted to get even more involved with improving student experience.
Cornwall is an amazing place even if it may seem a bit too rural at first. . I know we don’t have wagamamas but we do have loads of pubs, cafés, beaches, walks and cycle paths with so much charm. You just have to find them first… What Cornwall lacks in nightlife and citylife it makes up with the multitude of outdoor activities you can get up to.
My mission this year is to start going to more medics sports clubs and you can be sure there are loads on offer down here! From medics touch rugby to The Runner Beans (shameless plug for my own society) there are loads to join but it is also worth joining some of the non-medics societies as they can be a good way to network and escape the bubble.
When I’m not studying or cycling back and forth to kspa, I love exploring new running routes and am obsessed with Parkruns™️ and cream teas. Remember, it’s jam first round here. I’m also an occasional climber (just indoors but there’s some brilliant outdoor places down here) and sea swimmer.
My role is to work with the course reps for each year group and bring feedback back to the staff-student liaison committee (SSLC) meetings. Whether it’s positive or negative make sure to talk to your rep. If you see me around I’m also happy to have a yap, as many of you know all too well.
It is important we have open communication between the university and its students so I hope to facilitate that. I will aim to make students aware of when their feedback has been brought up and when it is acted on. We’re in this course for the long haul so let’s improve it for ourselves and the years below us.
If you're interested in signing up as rep, sign ups are open now until 11 October 2024.
