Meet Ari, AMATA Department Rep

Hi there, nice to meet you. I’m excited to talk to all of you over the next year, to introduce myself my name is Ari and I’m a second-year Theatre and Performance student and also a Department Rep for AMATA. As a passionate advocate for inclusion and accessibility, I'm committed to enhancing AMATA's student social and educational experience.

Studying in Cornwall has been great, sometimes when you need a break you can go for a walk but the way that Cornwall is set up means you could be next to a beach one minute and in a forest the next, this has helped with inspiration for different show ideas I’ve been creating, depending on the surrounding I need to study I will always be able to find a peaceful place or a bustling place.

When I’m off gallivanting from Uni, I use Adobe to design posters, videos and fabric patterns. Most of which I use to help me with my Mermaiding, as a freediver I joined a performance club in Cornwall where I do shows or appearances as a mermaid. While getting rid of chlorine and seawater from my nose for a few days isn’t the most glamorous thing in the world, It’s worth it to see the reaction of kids and adults alike seeing a real-life mermaid.

I started my journey of being a rep because I wanted to make a positive change for my peers, working as a Rep at a previous uni I found it fulfilling and being a rep for a year at Falmouth I found it fun and made quite a few friends including one that helped me change to a course that better suited me.

If you're interested in becoming a Department Rep, nominations are open NOW until Monday 7 October 2024.
