Elections

I recently had the opportunity to run for re-election as President of Falmouth, and I’m excited to share that I’m continuing in this role! The campaign was such a rewarding experience – I had the chance to engage with some incredible candidates and connect with so many students. It was inspiring to see the passion and ideas from everyone involved.

I’m really looking forward to another year of representing and advocating for Falmouth students. There are so many exciting projects ahead, and I’m dedicated to making sure our voices are heard and that we continue to build a stronger, more connected student community. I’m grateful for the trust placed in me, and I can’t wait to get started on making a real difference!

Hygiene station

I’m thrilled to share that we’re now ready to take the Hygiene Station to Woodlane Campus! This initiative will provide students with access to essential hygiene products, including refillable shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and cleaning supplies.

The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated. Access to basic hygiene products is crucial for students' well-being, and it’s something that should be available to everyone, regardless of their financial situation. By offering refillable options, we are ensuring that these products remain accessible to all students.

I’m excited for this next step in making our campus a more inclusive and supportive place, and I look forward to hearing students' feedback on this new resource.

Falmouth student experience committee

I recently had the privilege of chairing the Falmouth Student Experience Committee. This committee is made up of senior staff from Falmouth University and provides a fantastic platform to raise and address the issues that students are facing.

In our most recent meeting, I raised several key topics aimed at improving the student experience. One of the main points I discussed was how the Employability Team could offer more targeted support to students with writing CVs, ensuring they have the tools they need to stand out in the job market. I also highlighted the importance of student engagement on the Woodlane campus, noting the progress that’s being made but acknowledging that more work still needs to be done to further improve campus life for students there.

There’s still much more to be done to enhance the overall student experience, and I’m committed to pushing for changes that will make a meaningful difference for everyone at Falmouth. I’m excited to continue these conversations and work closely with senior staff to implement positive changes for our student community.

AMATA prices for societies

Currently, I’m working closely with students to address the pricing of booking AMATA spaces for societies. While it may not be possible to reduce the prices at this time, we are actively engaging in negotiations to create more opportunities for students, particularly those in music societies.

Our goal is to ensure that all students have access to the resources they need to thrive, and we’re exploring ways to make it easier and more affordable for music societies to utilize these spaces. I’m committed to pushing for positive changes that will better support students and help enhance their university experience.

Lighting on campus

I’m currently collaborating with FX Plus and Estates to improve campus lighting. It's been identified that there are areas on campus that are underlit, as well as areas that are overly lit, creating imbalances in safety and energy use.

In our discussions, we’re focusing on ensuring a safe environment for students at night by strategically looking at lighting in the right areas. We want to make sure that areas like walkways and entrances are well-lit, while also taking care to minimize any negative impact on wildlife and the natural environment. Additionally, we’re working on addressing the areas that are overly lit, such as car parks, to reduce light pollution and increase energy efficiency without compromising safety.

It’s important to find the right balance to create a secure, sustainable campus environment, and I’m excited to see these improvements take shape.

VC Tea

Recently, Fina and I had the opportunity to meet with Vice Chancellor, Emma Hunt, for our termly VC Tea session. This informal setting allowed us to share updates on the key initiatives we’ve been working on, as well as provide insight into the ongoing discussions we’re having with students. It was a great chance to have an open, candid conversation about the challenges and opportunities we’re facing and ensure that Emma is fully informed on the student experience.

During the meeting, we discussed several important topics, including our current projects and feedback from students, and we were able to raise any concerns that have been highlighted by the student body. It was also a valuable chance for us to hear directly from Emma and understand her priorities moving forward. These informal meetings play a crucial role in strengthening the relationship between students and senior leadership, and it’s always encouraging to have those lines of communication open.

UMHC

I’m currently preparing for the upcoming University Mental Health Charter assessment visit, which is a significant step in ensuring that our university continues to prioritize and improve mental health support for students. This preparation process has involved numerous planning meetings, where we’re carefully strategizing the best way to approach the visit and showcase the efforts we’ve made in supporting mental health on campus.

A key part of this preparation is getting student representatives involved, ensuring that their voices are heard and that they can contribute valuable feedback based on their own experiences and the concerns of their peers. We’re working closely with them to help them understand the process and how they can actively participate in the assessment, whether through sharing insights, attending meetings, or helping to gather feedback from the wider student body.
