It's Sabbatical Elections 2024! This is a time when both Falmouth University and the University of Exeter Cornwall students across the campuses we represent can utilise their voices to bring about changes to the university experience. Whether you are planning on standing for election, are a regular in engaging with the Students Union or this is your first time voting, this article will have something for you. So here are five reasons why you should vote:
- Voting in the SU Sabbatical Elections is the best way to make your voice heard with your university. The SU Presidents are in regular dialogue with both Falmouth University and the University of Exeter, constantly striving to improve the student experience for all. SU Presidents hold a lot of power in meetings with their respective university, so utilise them. They are here to listen to you, make your voice heard!
- Voting in the SU Sabbatical Elections is a great way to engage with the university community across the multiple campuses represented by the SU, from the Woodlane Campus to the Penryn Campus. It can bring you closer to your peers and help create a great atmosphere in which all students can thrive. Furthermore, if your friends or peers are standing for election, what better way do you have of supporting them than voting for them?
- While voting in the SU Sabbatical Elections can enhance your own student experience, you can also help to improve the experience of students who enrol after your time at university has ended. Bringing about meaningful, transformative change can create a legacy that others can enjoy. Whether it is something small such as more waste disposal around campus, new green spaces to enjoy or life-changing financial aid, the Student’s Union can be a real force for positive change for generations of students. This can only happen with your vote!
- Participating in the SU Sabbatical Elections is a great way to engage in politics at a university level, for both Falmouth University students and University of Exeter Cornwall students. This can then act as a stepping stone to engaging in politics at a wider societal election. Use this opportunity to engage in student politics to familiarise yourself with politics you will experience later in life.
- Finally, you have nothing to lose but a lot to gain in voting in the SU Sabbatical Elections. Voting takes minutes and is free. Your student voice is a powerful thing that can bring about change. Whether you want to bring about change for your sports team, improve campus facilities or make changes to university policy, the easiest and most effective way you can do this is by voting. The SU represents you, it is your union, your voice!
