Cost of Living Updates: President Student Experience

We wanted to use ‘Talk Money Week’ as an opportunity to tell you all what we’re up to and the ways we’ve each been working on bettering your student experience.

Seen our SU Crew out and about? I took the lead on organising the Cost of Living Campus pop-ups and drop ins. Thank you to everyone who came to speak to us about their experiences with finance – that is exactly what this week was created for.

Our team signed the NUS Open Letter to the Chancellor calling for targeted cost-of-living support for students, and off of the back of this we were contacted by BBC Radio Cornwall to take part in an interview on how students are dealing with the cost of living crisis. Luke and I spoke to them, and the clip can be listened to on our Instagram and Facebook, or by clicking here.

I also wrote to our two local MPs; Falmouth and Truro MP - Cherilyn Mackrory, and Camborne and Redruth MP, George Eustice. This letter called for our local council to explore options for targeted cost-of-living support specifically for students. We signed this, again, as a team and are awaiting any response from these representatives.

Just like the other presidents have mentioned, I have also been attending meetings on how the universities are working on supporting students through this crisis. I’ve been taking your comments and emails to these spaces to show senior members of staff the opinion of the students.

You can read our other cost-of-living related articles here on our Cost of Living Crisis Hub.
