I had brought students concerns around the cost of living to the attention of Professor Emma Hunt, Vice Chancellor of Falmouth university.

Over the last few months, I have been working with the VC to set up an internal, student focused Cost of Living group within Falmouth University. A group with the aim of reducing the cost of learning for all Falmouth students. Led by me and academic directors, this group is currently looking at university policy with the aim of making the changes needed to support students during this time as well as communicating what support is available clearly and effectively with students. All things from access to hardship, mitigation policy and assessment criteria are being discussed.

Sharing the lived experiences of students with the university has been invaluable for departments to review their budgets and practices to support students at course level.

Having real student experiences to bring to these spaces to show the university the reality of the Cost of Living Crisis is invaluable when having these conversations. It is so important for me to be able to effectively represent your voice when making change. I ask, if you’re able and willing, to continue sharing your stories regarding the CoL with us at the SU. Email us at presidents@thesu.org.uk or message on Instagram @supresidents.

Thank you, and I will continue working to support Falmouth students throughout this process.

You can also find out more information in our Cost of Living Crisis Hub.
