Everything you need to know about November 2024's Big Rep Meeting

Get ready for this year’s Big Rep Meeting! This is your opportunity to have your voice heard.

BRMPresidents blog

At the meeting, your course reps will share feedback with SU, university and FX Plus staff on your university experience. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of it!

I'm a Rep - What can I expect from the Big Rep Meeting?

The Big Rep Meeting is a chance for reps to discuss students' feedback on wider university services directly with the staff who can make those changes.

The topics listed below will be split into separate tables, which will be attended by reps from both Falmouth University and the University of Exeter.

The topics this year are:

Climate change and education

In relation to the climate and ecological crisis, how could your course better prepare you for the world of tomorrow and beyond rather than the world of yesterday?

Students’ Union events

  • Alongside your studies what events and opportunities are you hoping to see? This can be on campus, in the local community, in Cornwall, or online.
  • How much would you be willing to spend on these activities?

Wellbeing

What are the barriers that students face when accessing and understanding wellbeing services?

International students

How can our campus community (students, the SU, the universities) improve the transition for international students moving to the UK?

CoLab

CoLab is a hub where students can propose and collaborate on projects, innovation and teamwork across all disciplines. It is a forum where students can post a project, and other students can then get in contact to get involved in that project. Check out CoLab on the SU website.

CoLab is designed to help students develop and diversify their portfolios, gain experience, and build valuable skills alongside their academic studies.

We're excited to announce that CoLab is re-launching! We want to know:

  • What would you use CoLab for?
  • How might CoLab benefit your studies?

Falmouth Stores – feedback on the Falmouth Stores system

  • Do you use the stores system when you need equipment or materials?
  • If you could change one thing about the stores system, what would it be?
  • Have you been able to find guidance and help when you've needed it?
  • Any other comments?

University of Exeter only

Curriculum for Change

As part of its ‘Curriculum for Change’ project the University of Exeter is developing the Exeter Skills Framework (click the linked text to see the PDF for more info!).

How useful would this framework be for:

  • Helping you understand where employability skills are incorporated into your learning at university
  • Helping you articulate and prove the skills you’ve learned to employers
  • How likely would you be to use a portfolio tool to evidence all the skills you have built up during your time at university?
  • What would encourage you to use this framework?
  • How else can we use this framework to support you?

Online students – the Big Rep Meeting goes online!

This year we will be trialling a live Big Rep Meeting experience for our reps from distance learning and online courses. This is an open invitation for all online students to come along and share your thoughts on all the Big Rep Meeting questions. The online forum will be combined with one of our Online Students’ Collectives, giving you the opportunity to share your experiences and feedback to make change, and network with other online students.

If you can’t join live, then you can add your thoughts to our Big Rep Meeting Padlet which will go live on 4 December.
