About the role of Student Advisor

This role is an exciting opportunity to join our Advocacy team. The Advocacy team empower students to advocate for themselves through Advice and Academic Representation.

As a Student Advisor you will be responsible for providing free, impartial, confidential advice to students within the Advice Service remit.

This includes supporting students through casework, workshops, and referrals, developing and maintaining knowledge of the sector and guidance for students, and collaborating with colleagues from The SU, Falmouth University, University of Exeter, and Falmouth Exeter Plus, as well as services outside The SU and the institutions.

The ideal candidate will be a great communicator, have a proactive approach, and be welcoming of change. You will need to be confident in advocating and negotiating on behalf of students, helping them to take ownership of problem solving and moving forward. You are comfortable with administrative tasks and maintaining clear and accurate case notes and records. You are organised and able to multi-task and prioritise in a busy and demanding environment.

This post is a permanent position working on a 0.4 contract, which is 14 hours per week. A flexible approach to working hours is required. As an organisation we have an agile working programme. For this role, the successful candidate will be required to work on campus for most of the contracted hours during term time due to the student-facing nature of the role. Working hours and patterns will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.
