Asian Society

Falmouth & Exeter Asian Society is an organisation affiliated with The Falmouth & Exeter Students Union tailored to and run by Falmouth & Exeter Students based on our Penryn, Falmouth, and Truro campuses.

Here at ASOC, we are dedicated to nurturing a safe space for individuals to explore, celebrate, and honour their cultural heritage. As a growing community we recognise how transformative our society can be to student life here in Cornwall. For this reason we appreciate your engagement and suggestions. Fundamentally, our organisation takes on two primary roles: Representation & Celebration.

Representation

This year we have worked tremondously hard to reshape this society into a representative, safe space for Asian students. Given past events, it has become apparent that as a minority on campus and in Cornwall we are often left feeling overlooked and marginalised. Our society has liased with the SU and Universities directly so that we may take actionable steps forward from this history. In these discussions, we have agreed that nurturing a community where Asian students remain connected with one another is essential to ensuring that Asian students do not feel isolated in their cultural identities on campus. This network exists for you so that you may get the absolute most out of your time at University. If you have any concerns relating to racial discrimination, misrepresentation, or marginalisation as an Asian Student please reach out to us directly so that we can ensure that this handled by the SU, University and any relevant bodies appropriately and with the sensitivity that it deserves.

Celebration

On the lighter side of things, our society performs the role of bringing the vibrancy and festivity of Asian culture to Cornwall. Our celebrations are an inclusive space for people of all walks of life to get involved with. We deem it important that we have students from all backgrounds participate in our events so that we may alleviate the distance between Asian culture and student life at our Cornwall campuses. 

  Throughout the year we hope to deliver events that range from:

• Networking/ Socialising (alcohol and non-alcohol based)
• Education e.g. speaker and panel events 
• Core festival celebrations (including Diwali, Chinese New Year, Eid etc)
• Formals 
• Food based events 
• Collaborations with other societies
• and much, much more!!
